How can I prevent my cast-iron pan from smoking?

I don’t think it was ever seasoned or cured when it was first purchased. Now when used it smokes the house. Any tips with what I can do now?

Give it a thorough scrub, and re-season.

Cast Iron Care.
Scrub the inside and outside thoroughly in soapy water to remove the anti-rust coating.
Dry and lightly coat the inside with cooking oil.
Heat the skillet for a few minutes.
This process should be repeated several times.
After using skillet wash thoroughly, then wipe dry before applying a light coat of oil over the surface. After repeated usage you pan will turn black, this is a natural process showing your skillet is well seasoned and also helps create a non stick surface.
